Environment-Friendly Pest Control That You Should Try

Pest elimination has been associated with chemical pesticides. The pesticides may also affect other “good” insects as it eliminates those harmful pests. Some chemical pesticides may also affect humans and animals when it seeps through the environment.

The good news is that there are now environment-friendly pest control methods that even commercial pest control companies use. You may discuss with your pest control provider the use of environmentally safe pest elimination methods, or you may visit their website to find out the services they offer. Usually, they have a contact form on their website, and they will be glad to assist you if you have inquiries.

You may also start pest prevention in your household. Good housekeeping and garbage disposal are simple ways that will prevent pests from coming to your house. Rodents and roaches are attracted to food scraps and wastes in your house. Without food, the pests will leave your homes.

You should also be wary of termites because these pests are very destructive. It can destroy your home and leave you with thousands of dollar bill for repairs. Termites are very hard to eliminate that is why you would need a pest control expert to eradicate them completely.

There are organic ways to prevent your pests in your household. We have listed some of them so you can give them a try.

For Ants

  • Cucumber

Put a few slices to their usual entry point in your house to stop them from coming in.

  • Cayenne Pepper and Citrus Oil

In a cup of warm water, mix one teaspoon of cayenne and about ten drops of citrus oil. Shake it and spray in areas frequented by ants to deter them.

  • Eucalyptus Oil

It can eliminate flies, bees, and wasps. Just put a few drops of eucalyptus near the pest’s dwelling, and they will move away.

  • Diatomaceous Earth (DE)

It is powdered dried fossilized phytoplankton. Sprinkle it on the pest, and it will dry them up.

  • Cornmeal

You use it like poison. Sprinkle some on the areas ants frequent. Ants cannot digest it once they eat it, resulting in their demise.

For Mosquitoes

  • Destroy breeding grounds

Mosquitoes lay their eggs is stagnant water. Make sure you clear your garden of these to remove mosquito breeding grounds.

  • Keep them out

Install screens on your doors and windows to prevent adult mosquitoes from entering your home.

  • Neem Oil

It is an oil from the Neem tree containing Sallanin that repels mosquito. You can add a few drops of this oil to your lotion to create an insect repellent lotion.

Aside from caring for your household, it is also great to contribute some hours of work to support pest clearing projects in your neighborhood. A good example is the implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) methods in San Jose parks. This initiative was done to protect the creeks and stream near the park. It cannot be avoided that pesticides can contaminate bodies of water when it is applied.

They have started using Integrated Pest Management methods, instead of chemicals, in pest-proofing their parks. IPM uses biological and mechanical ways to eliminate the pest. Since IPM is labor extensive, the residents in the area helped in completing the project and is continuously done to date.
